Speaker: Jason P. Aufdenberg Michelson Postdoctoral Fellow National Optical Astronomy Observatory Tucson, Arizona USA "Infrared Interferometric Gravity Darkening Observations and Modeling of Vega" The talk will describe new techniques for optical groundbased interferometry, using the largest available telescopes (e.g. VLT) and arrays (such as CHARA) to measure the structure of resolved stellar surfaces. This is a new frontier for the highest resolution work in stellar physics, the actual measurement of the shape of stellar surfaces and the confrontation of these results with models for stellar interiors and evolution.
