Speaker: Gloria Sala Cladellas Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC) - CSIC "X-ray emission from classical novae" Detection of X-ray emission from classical novae in their post-outburst stages provides crucial information about the nova phenomenon. The soft X-ray emission gives a direct insight into the remaining hot nuclear burning shell, while the hard X-ray emission provides a diagnostic of the conditions in the nova shell and the possible resumption of accretion. In this talk, I will overview my current PhD work, both theoretical and observational. In the first part, white dwarf envelope models with stationary hydrogen burning will be presented. Properties of the X-ray emission of the post-nova white dwarf are obtained, and the results will be compared to ROSAT observations. The second part of the talk will deal with XMM-Newton observations of Nova Sgr 1998 and Nova Oph 1998.
